Just an update as to why I have been so slow updating.

I have been moving my crafting area from the basement to my son's room upstairs. I figured a week would would be all it took. Not so, it has been a much longer process than I ever expected. I now have stuff in the halls, in the basement and in my new room. My son is sleeping on the couch in the basement as his furniture is in his brother's room and now my oldest is coming home from College this weekend and you can't even get in his room. So it has been abit hard to plan or complete anything but it is coming along. Now if only my knees would hold out.

Welcome New Holiday Mini

The new Holiday Mini is now available to order from.

It is wonderful with lots of great new products including a great new scoring tool.

I love the new Simply Scored and have been using it for abit now.

(One of the perks of being a demo you get to try out the new products before they are released.)

It has score marks every 1/8 of an inch. A great stylus with metal tips and a comfortable handle. There are also marker so that you can mark which lines you need to score on and extra markers can be purchased.

There are so many wonderful items in the new min.

I will be scheduling classes very soon. My oldest son is off to college this week and I will soon get my house back as his stuff has filled my living room and hallways.

Look for my great Halloween party class. We will create great items for a Halloween themed party.

I will also be holding a class to create a wonderful flower wreath.

Sorry I have been absent lately. We are moving from one set of kid's activities to the next and do not have schedules set up yet. My youngest is finished with one football team and onto the next and we start travelling this weekend with him.
The oldest is off to college in less than 3 weeks and we have a lot more to organize than I first thought.
Anyway, keep an eye on the blog as I will be updating soon and I have received some of the great new products for the Holiday Mini and I am so excited about it.

My Digital Studio Printing

I have been playing around with My Digital Studio this week and I think I will finally get some scrapbooking done. I wanted to print some pages on my home printer but it took awhile to figure it all out.

I was have a problem getting the page to fill the whole sheet.

Finally found out that you need to go to File>Page Setup> Change all the margins to 0. mine were at 1 in. so I kept getting a white border.

If you have any questions about my digital studio please post them I will try and find out the answer for you.

I had the margins at 1in when I saved it to a JPEG.

Baroque Motifs

A quick card that I made for a wedding. I stamped the Baroque Motif large design in black and then the little flower in Melon Mambo. Hard to tell in the photo but I added a little rhinestone to each of the flower centers. The stamp set is on page 146 of the new Stampin Up Idea Book and Catalog and was a free set that I earned through one of Stampin Up's demo promotions.

Stampin Up is rolling along

It seems like summer just dropped upon us. Even though it is the dog days of summer, Stampin Up keeps on rolling. This week was their annual convention. I really want to go next year. all the picts. I saw looked so exciting. Anyway, not only have they released their new catalog but the Holiday Mini will be upon us soon. And the news that I am hearing is so exciting. I will get my first view on Monday and I can't wait. I have seen some highlights already and there are so many new items that I want that I am about to explode. I will let you know the details soon as I am able to.

Well it is almost that time of year. The new catalog will come into effect on July 1.

The worst part is that it is in the middle of a long weekend.

Catalogs are $11.95 but you can receive one for free or at a reduced price.

You can book a workshop and you will receive a catalog for free.

Join one of my clubs and you will receive a free catalog.

Place an order online through my site before July 15 for over $100 before shipping and taxes and I will send you a free catalog.

Hope everyone had a great long weekend. at the least the weather was better here than we expected.

Just a couple notes:

Clubs: I can begin clubs as soon as we have enough interested. I need a few more people for a card club and we can get started. Email me for details.

Classes and Events

I would love to hear from everyone as to what type of events/classes they are interested and when is a good time of the day/week for everyone.

I have been offering a card class once a month.

You make approx. 3 cards for either $12 or free with an order of $25 before shipping and taxes. And that has been going well..

I am looking at offering an new event.

A Card Buffet.

You will make 8 cards for $20 with the option of making more at $2 each.

You will be able to choose from a variety of cards.

There will be a 3 hour time frame to complete the cards. You will only need to bring adhesive a small tool kit(scissors, paper trimmer, bone folder if you have one).

For the scrapbookers, I have a great little 6x6 mini scrapbook that you can make in one session.

Pricing will follow but you will be able to carry over the techniques to other projects.

We can also do a Scrapbook Buffet.

I have to work out the details but you would have a choice of layouts to complete from a series of preset pages. Time frame may be longer.

I am also up for suggestions.

Stampin Up Clubs are often run by Stampin Up demos and I looking to see if anyone is interested in joining.

You would need a commitment to purchasing a min. set amount of Stampin Up products each month. In return I would hold a free class and each month one member would receive the hostess benefits.

The magic number is $200 in purchase(before shipping and taxes) for the members to reach each month.

So, if there are 8 members, the club would run for 8 months and you would need to purchase a min of $25 each month. 6 members, 6 months, $33 in purchase.

And for the month you are the hostess I do recommend getting some outside orders to increase your rewards.

I will hold the club events at my home on a set day, if you can't make it is ok you just need to give me your order by that evening.

My oldest son made me a lightbox for taking photos of projects.

Need to work on the lighting abit but it will make it easier to add photos to the blog.

This is my first upload.

I had seen this texture on the internet but it took me abit to figure out that it was an embossing folder.

I am so excited to update everyone on the happenings here at Canadian Scrapper.
It has been just over a year since I closed my storefront and I appreciate everyone who has supported me since then through my online store, crop and Open House.
I have noticed how the industry is changing and product suppliers are harder to deal with with shipping delays, backorders and more.

Thank you to everyone who came in this past week. Things were abit crazy and messy. We will be keeping our online store open for abit as we do have products left still. Inventory online may not be up to date for a few days.
We have a few plastic page trays left for $4 a piece, we have one paper rack that will hold 24 styles of paper for $40 and 4 racks that hold 24 side by side sheets(12 rows high by 2) and these are $50 but you can stack one on top of another.
My new email is canadianscrapper@gmail.com but you can phone my at home if interested in racking. I will not be taking customers at home for shopping though products will have to be shipped.

Store Closing

It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing that I will be closing Canadian Scrapper's storefront at the end of Jan. 2010 for personal reasons.
I want to thank everyone for their support over these many years. It has been great getting to know everyone and been really nice to see so many children be born and grow, be part of some of your wedding planning, party planning and so much more. The memories and the laughter will stick with me forever.
I'd like to thank the ladies who have helped me along the way. Debbie, Brenda, Elma, Lisa, Karin, Wendy and Stephanie. Without all of you Canadian Scrapper could not have run for some many years. And of course my family who have put up with many hours of slave labour helping at the store and let me follow my dreams. And to my mom who I dearly miss, who supported me, helped me decorate for many seasons and provided many great meals at so many crops.
So, my husband tells me that I can't take all the product home with me as we do not have enough room. As a result we are beginning to mark prices down on many products and mark downs will happen as we go along clearing out the store.
I will have racks and displays for sale also. Please contact me for details.
I will be selling the store demo Silhouette for a great price.
And we have Sizzlit fonts for sale as well as some other tools from the classroom will be placed out for sale.
Patterned Papers are now $0.60 each, Basic Grey sticker letters are $2, stickers on rolls are 50% off, chipboard items are 50% off and we have marked down our Quickutz. There are many more products on sale now.

We will be receiving the new Hero Arts products and ordering in more Hero Arts once the new catalogue arrives. We have a couple of items on order that will be coming in. We will be placing at least one more order with our general supplier so if you do require a product we can order it in with full payment.
We will not be able to hold products for customers anymore unless they are paid for in full.
All sales will be final.

Can a day get any worse?

My day has not been the best but it could be worse as I know some people's are. Mine was frustrating and kinda funny.
So, DH has to get up at 5:15 to leave for a one day course for work. So I wake up at 5am worried he won't get up. Not sure how that happens, and of course I can't fall back to sleep once he leaves until it is almost time for the alarm to go off at 6:15 to get DS up to get ready for school. He leaves at 7pm. I never understand how the older they get the harder it is to get them going.
I go back to bed till 7:55 when the alarm goes off again. And DS number 2 feels sick. He has a cold. So back to bed for him.
And DD is to get the bus at 8:30. She has been up since 7 getting ready for school??? I yell and yell the time. She gets out the door and down the road and the bus driver decides not to wait for her and take a different way to pick up the kids at the next stop. Usually the bus goes by our house-used to pick the kids up at our house for the last 8 years. She said the kids were even waving at her as the bus took it's new route around the park-a longer way to go. I am sure the driver did it because DD is often late. I have no idea how she will get on the bus at 7:10 next year.
So I am in the middle of having my cereal when she comes back. Now we have to scrap the car, really I ran the defrost while I eat my cereal. And I go in my housecoat and PJ's to driver.
And well I hit the recycle bins at the end of our driveway. Dh never puts them on the grass, he leaves them on the driveway. And of course it was the day that they picked them up late. So we had to pick up 3 containers for cans and plastic. And then off to school. I was only a half hour behind this am.
I am ready for bed now.
As for the store. I am tired so not accomplishing much today. I am working on a Copic Class, I just need the right paper and the company who has it has been slow. I was told the person I need to talk to had a busy week last week and they were tired today so they didn't come to work today. So I am not draggin my heels, just need the supplies or a shipping date.
And I have a fun new product coming in on Thurs. trying to track UPS but not many updates. I will announce it when it comes in. DD is actually looking forward to this.
As new things happen at the store I will post.

Makes me think

Again I wasn't too sure how to title this but I really wanted to share what happened while we were away last week.
My family(DH and the 3 kids) and I drove to Nova Scotia to take my mom's ashes to where she grew up. As some of you know my mom suffered a terrible stroke and was ill for some time. It was very hard on all the family and I still have alot of difficulty dealing with her loss.
Anyway, our road trip was something out of National Lampoons for sure. I did write alot in a journal while we were in the van as I think someday it could make a great movie. I told my DH that Will Farrow would have to play him.
But what I wanted to share were the events of my mom's memorial. My mom's younger brother and wife planned the day as I just didn't know how to do it. They live out in the country on Cape Breton Island, on the Mira River and it is where my mom spent her summers in her younger days and she often went back in the summer to visit family(as did I for many years).
Now my mom's favorite colour is Lime Green, so my uncle bought a Lime Green Lawn chair and set it up on a hill over looking the river on his property near a little garden. My mom's cousin's planted a tree, there. The day started out nice and DH and I ran around doing errands while the kids help set up. Over 60 people were expected(abit much for me). And 20 minutes before we were to start the sky's opened up and it hailed and rained and thundered and there was lightening. So needless to say we could not go out side. It was a good thing that their place is large. So we began inside. My aunt said a few words and we sang a couple of songs and then we let go 45 coloured ballons(red, yellow, white and green) and everyone visited and we ate. After awhile people left as the rain wasn't letting up. After many people had left and there was only a few very close relatives, the rain suddenly stopped and the sun peeked out. We decided to spread my mom's ashes then. There were about 20 of us.
We went up on the little hill overlooking the water and the most incredible thing had happened(now I am not very good at telling things well) But when we looked out at the water there were 6 Lime Green Balloons floating in the water. No other colours, it was as if they were waiting. I do have pictures at home to show them. Again my aunt said a few words and my uncle spread my mom's ashes and everyone sang a song my mom loved. And when we finished the balloons floated away. It was the most unbelievable thing ever.

Life

I am sorry to anyone who went to the store late Friday but I had to close early, I needed to be with my mother. As some of you know my mother had a stroke 17 months ago and it has been a long and difficult struggle for her and for us. On Friday night she passed away. It has been the most difficult time of my life and at least I now know that she is at peace. The next bit will still be hard as our family works at healing.
I know that this is a part of life, just not a part any of us want to experience.
I have been lax at getting some things accomplished at the store and it will take some time for me to get back on track but I am doing what I can.
I hope to see many of you at our National Scrapbook Day event. My mother often helped me with the preparations for this day for many years and I am sure in some way she will be with us.

Need a Nap

Anyone else out there need a nap? Or a day on a lawn chair? I would love one. I always think that summer will give me more time to rest. Then I wake up.
My week is crazy. DD has started dance camp which goes for 2 weeks so I drive her every am a half hour away-she needs to be there for 9am. I am not a morning person so that makes it hard. We are out the door by 8:30, then I go off to the store. And for anyone who has been by-I have been here early this week as the store is part way between my home and the dance camp. Then at the store for the day.
Monday was soccer playoffs.
Tues. was a meeting for Football in Niagara Falls.
Wed. night I had to drive out to see my mom at the hospital to drop off some things for her and get groceries.
Tonight is football practise( I get home close to 9 those nights). My uncle is arriving to stay with us for a few days-today. Tomorrow am, DH is leaving for a work trip till next Wed. and we are taking his partner's dog for the time that they are gone-hopefully my dog won't freak out too much.
Fri. both boys get braces in the am. Fri. night is the release party for High School Musical 2 for my DD and her friends-and I am sure my boys will be real pains.
Sat. is a party for the football team. And Sun. is Superbowl Sunday-final playoff day for football but a half hour away.
It would be great if everything was close by, We will be all over the Niagara Penninsula this weekend.
Oh well, I won't be able to complain that I am bored-I am sure the kids will complain that they are though.
Maybe I can nap next week. After dance camp, soccer tournament, and high school football camp and school registration. And dance registration. Wait-that takes us to Sept.
Oh well no rest for the wicked.

The Long Weekend

Well I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful long weekend. I am looking forward to it.
No real plans and the 10 loads of laundry on my basement floor may not get done either. In fact, I flooded the laundry room yesterday, or at least the bathing suit that was plugging the drain flooded it. So I am not looking forward to picking up the wet clothes at the bottom of the pile.
I have my fingers crossed for sun and heat-I like the hot weather, mainly because I like to swim in the pool when it is above 80F. I am not a fan of the refereshing swim anymore.
Hopefully everyone takes loads of pictures, I need to get some photos of the kids just being kids-I tend to take alot of sports/dance related picts. but not as many relaxing photos. So that is a goal this weekend.

The year comes to a close.

Well 2006 is almost over. Life seems to fly by faster and faster. My oldest son is now taller than me and all 3 of my kids seem so mature(at least most of the time).
I finally got to Vegas this year-what a blast, I would love to go there again. Both of my boys had great football seasons. My oldest started high school. My daughter who loves dancing began Pointe and is very driven to expand her dancing, even though she is only 11 this is the time for her to become serious.
My DH has worked hard over the past year, his job takes alot out of him but he keeps on plugging away.
We have had some changes at the store. The new ladies on staff are great and we are having lots of fun. Our website is growing but still needs tons of work.
And my life took a nose drive on Nov. 29 when mom had a massive stroke. She was so active and full of life and now is stuck in a bed and can only sit in a wheelchair for a short time. It was so unexpected and devastating for all of us. She is a large part of my kid's lives and it has been hard on them. I now feel as if I am her mother as I have to take care of everything for her. We have no idea how much of her abilities she will gain back-it will be a long and slow road is what we have been told. She is completely paralyzed on her left side. I now attempt to find humor in the day to day activities surrounding her illness, such as my youngest driving her wheelchair into the wall on Christmas day. The smells of the hospital are permanently etched in my brain, DH says the same thing. The hospital staff has been wonderful, I have no idea how they do what they do day in and day out. But we deal with life as best as we can.
Due to all of the activities of my life I have neglected some aspects of the store recently. I hope that my loyal customers will bear with me for the next little bit as I try and get back on track. I have plans for new products, new promotions and new events at the store. It just takes time.
I look on 2007 as a year of rebuilding and renewal. Overall 2006 was a good year just some potholes along the way.
It really is hard to come up with any eloquent to say. I wish all of you love, laughter and joy for the new year and the years to come.

Back to High School

I know it has been awhile since I have written anything here. I keep trying to come up with something funny or reflective or even remotely interesting but it never seems to happen.
I would like to share something that I did last night though.
My oldest son has started grade 9. He seems to be loving it. I was so worried about his transition but he is in heaven. Of course he hasn't had alot of homework or tests yet. The first tests were today so we will see what that does to his mood. He has a large number of friends attending the school and he is a real social butterfly and makes friends easily and what makes me happy is that he likes to be friends with all types of people and is not as cliquish as his sister(which I hope she grows out of soon.) And of course for him school is still about the social thing, marks don't seem to worry him, that is until he has to tell us about his marks-different story.
He has made the football team which has added to his joy, not sure how much he will play as he is still very small in stature but he just likes being part of the team.
So my night last night, it was a cirriculum night at the school. Of course my son was too busy with his active life to attend, so I went alone. It brought back all the bad memories of high school for me. We went to the auditorium first to listen to the principals and teachers, I was desparately looking for another parent that I knew so I could feel more comfortable, a friend found me(she was childless also). Then we had to follow the child's class schedule to find out about the classes. So we had to follow maps and find rooms, sit in the chairs and listen to the teacher but then rush to the next room when the bell rang.
The first room wasn't too hard to find as I knew another mom and we walked together.
Science was the first class when the teacher started talking about the Periodic Table I thought I would faint-I still can't remember anything beyond H20.
It was easy to find the next class-French, as it was a portable next to the football hut-which I had seen many mornings already. The teacher seemed nice. Next was computers, the teacher talked alot, I was warned by my son but the teacher was nice. There were teachers providing directions in the hall. But when the bell rang the teacher continued and I started to panice about the next class.
When we got out of there it all fell apart. I got so lost. Who would think that I couldn't find the gym? Who would know that there would be more than one gym? Anyway, I ended up in the girls' phys ed class and then in an empty gym. I never did find where I was supposed to be. One person told me that the teacher wasn't at the school that night but who knows, I could still be wandering if I hadn't given up. It felt like being back in high school for me, lost and feeling out of sorts. And then I had to come home and tell my son everything that I did, saw and said. Now I know how he feels at the end of the day with way too many questions coming from my mouth.
It made me feel proud that he is growing up and feeling confident in himself but said that he is growing up. Hopefully next time we go to the school he can come with me and show me the way.

Where did summer go?

I can't believe that it is almost Sept. Where did summer go? The leaves are turning already. And some have fallen from the large tree across the road from the store.
I love the warmth of summer and how happy people seem to be in the summer.
My oldest is starting high school this year and I am not ready for that. I still remember him as a baby with fuzzy hair, now his hair is perfectly spiked and he is never without his gel. I think I am more nervous about it than he is.
Anyway, it means that it is time to get working on the summer photos now.
New products have arrived in the store including the new Basic Grey and more products are on the way-keep an eye on the shopping section of our website for more info.

Reality TV

Now that the blog is pretty much set up I am playing around with some extras. I saw the music video on another site and loved it and of course I love JD and INXS. I got hooked last summer, JD was my second choice but I think things are going well with them. I would have loved to have seen them at Casino Niagara but they sold out in minutes-it did save me from having to decide if I would buy a $200 ticket for DH to go with me or not.
I must admit that the reality TV stuff has made summer TV viewing addicting. Currently I am addicted to Canadian Idol(I love the guys, I only like Stephie from the girls), So You Think You Can Dance(this is great, I love them all), SuperNova is starting to grow on me(I love Tommy Lee, but the choices aren't as great for them as INXS's choices were), and the kids and I watch Treasure Hunters also.
If you are not a fan of INXS, just turn down the volume-and of course I will change it as we go along.

Well, I hope this will be the first posting in this blog. I have rewritten it numerous times-mostly with test as the heading. It often looks great but seems to disappear or become all wonky. So I hope this is the start of something great.
I am not sure if anyone will even care to read what I have to say but you never know.
Our new website is still abit bare but it will fill quickly.
